Reminders

The amount of todo-list apps for iOS and OSX is large. But since 10.7, all you really need to get a more or less productive environment set-up for your one-man-show is already built into iOS and OSX: The Reminders app.

This is why I dropped everything else for the built-in solution:

Well, it’s about personal preferences. Scribbling something during a meeting doesn’t work on electronic devices for me. I need paper for that. On the other hand, putting reminders on paper never really worked for me either, as they build up and at the end, I miss some items because they’re hidden deep down on a stash of paper on my desk. And so on. You know the deal. Like that, if I remember something important while I’m about to fall asleep, I grab my iPad, write a couple of words and I can forget about it and focus on resting. And at least one of the devices I listed above are always in my reach.

However, for some reason, Apple’s “Notes” app doesn’t resonate with me. I kinda hate the yellow background and the default marker font. It’s ugly, unreadable and so on. iCal also never quite reached it’s potential in my case. I’m simply not a calendar person. I basically only use iCal for appointements, but not as a daily planning tool. My workflow is so chaotic at times, that “planning” my day is never going to happen. I can’t plan a day like “I’m going to work 2 hours on that and 3 hours on this”. That’s not how I roll. :-)
