5 facts about me

personal

(This article is available in english only, I don’t feel like translating the whole bunch of text on a monday morning :) ..)

I “inofficially” ( ;) ) got passed this little task from Aasemoon a week ago. I was way too busy to think about 5 facts last week, lot of projects going on and I was too absorbed with everything to think about it seriously. Additionally, I don’t have anything supernatural or extremely weird to offer which would be worth mentioning - and there’s a big red line I draw between personal stuff and public stuff, which limits the 5 facts to a rather trivial set of facts, stuff basically anyone could identify himself/herself with. In the lines of Aasemoon, well, I don’t try to write about the fact that I like music, you should have already noticed that. Well, let’s see what we can find … dig dig dig

1 - Mess. Yeah, I have to admit, my workspace aswell as my flat are quite chaotic places. “Cleaning up the flat” means “rearranging the chaos” in my case. The only space I’m picky about is the desktop on my workstation, because that’s what I see everyday for 10 hours .. You see, I just don’t have the time to care about the arrangement of all the papers and everything. I could arrange it in mindmap theory, buy organising-tools or spend 2 years on finding the ideal solution .. but in the end, everything will be arranged in a chaotic way, so I don’t even bother .. The paradox to that follows just now:

2 - Perfectionism. I can be quite a bitch about haveing something perfect. Not all the time, tho. It depends a lot on the project itself. This fact isn’t that special, I guess it’s just a human attitude, but well … Like, for example, there are not that thrilling projects which I sometimes even have a little bit of trouble motivating myself for. On the other hand, the more artistic freedom I have, the more bitchy I am to have it perfect. That goes for graphics and music at the same time. For example, the new company logo was something I spent more than six months on, to have it just the way I wanted it. On the other hand, if someone wants a prospect with cheesy images and he can’t offer me at least 1 conceptual point about what the project is for, I have no trouble on getting it done ASAP, haveing a little bad feeling in the stomach because I see the best case, innervision-wise, but there’s either no budget to get it done or the client simply doesn’t care, which unfortunately, happens quite a lot. (Ok, they always care, it’s just a question of expectations: For some, 0815 is perfect, for some it’s not even cutting the term “Ok”…). Talking about inner vision, well ..

3 - Paper vs. process. If you talk to people about creativity, in 90% of all the cases you somehow end up at the point of how they are visualising ideas. While most of the people I know are very into the idea of haveing a full sketch on paper first, I’m more into the process of it, evolving .. sort of. Let’s say, I do the sketching while production .. This works as long as you’re on a project alone, careing about the whole tasks yourself and not haveing a big production team involved. Of course, I do sketch stuff on paper, to have a little bit of a clue on where to start. But I’m not dependant on it. I end up changing everything a hundred times until I’m happy with it, haveing the same amount of versions - or in the end, only one. Maybe this is because I’m into music this much, doing it myself .. music is something you really can’t sketch, it’s evolving over time, you’re adding elements, deleting them, readding them in a different way, moving them around, changing the main bass line after you already finished all the parts .. It’s a more organic, a more artistic way of putting creativity into a production. I can very well hang on to guidelines, that’s not a problem. But somehow the best things I ever did evolved over a rather long period of time, faced the delete button quite a few times and are not based on any sort of “realworld production workflow”. This is something very subjective and everyone has his very own way of working things out and they may even vary greatly from production to production. I’m just too much of a nerd to defend “paper-ism” to death, to be a little bit cynic .. which aswell connects us to the next fact:

4 - Cynicism. It’s somehow in my nature to be a darn cynic about life and it’s little ups and downs. I love cynic comedy, cynic comics, cynic writings .. I guess it’s a mindset one develops over time. Life’s just too idiotic sometimes to be all the way serious about it. Especially when running across guys like the wacko.. I’m not a very optimistic person, I call myself “realist”, while other people would call that “slightly pessimistic”. =) Optimism has it’s place in my life tho, which aswell connects us to the last point which is basically the most important point of those five:

5 - This one much corresponds with Aasemoon’s 5th point. I’ve never been in love with a girl until our roads crossed… I’m thankful for every day, since I first received this comment in my blog, a long time ago, from a person with a rather unfamiliar nickname (“for sale: soul” .. well .. someone definately received it..). On top of that, there are a thousand other things I could write about this special topic but well, you may accept the fact that this is something that does not belong into a format like this.. So, you may just imagine “love” and you know what I’m talking about.

Well, so much about my five points. I am not passing this to anyone, but if you decide to write one yourself, post a comment and I’m gonna add a link somewhere below. Taking into account that spambots and searchengine-spiders don’t feel like getting personal, I don’t think there will be much resonance from the other 10-12 “real” persons reading my blog, so .. =)

(btw. I love LEGO, too. hehe.)
