talwegeins on the web

January 3, 2005
bern

“talwegeins” is an artgallery located in berne, switzerland. their next event is on the 8th of january. comic stuff. you might check their homepage here to get a more sophisticated view of things. the oh-so-wanted critics

the design of this page is very different to what you encounter in general. reading thru a book with yellow post-it stickers all around is not what you get every day. :) so a “thumb-up” for the design idea.

my personal point of view (yeah, the fucking subjective one): tho the idea is cool and the realisation well done, there could be a lot more done to make it just perfect. i miss several things from the design point of view: for example, the integration of given architectural photo material of the location into the design itself could add value, there are a lot more details which could be integrated into the whole framework. this approach tries to be kinda freaked-out and different, but it is not freaked-out and different enough for my taste :). either you make it crisp and clean (“swiss style”) or totally freaked out. also the use of good typographic layout on the non-handwritten pages will make it a lot more enjoyable.

it’s a very personal approach, i imagine someone who does not know the collective already might have some trouble getting a point what it is all about, because there isn’t an explanation or a mission statement anywhere, neither in words or by images. so from the content view of things, there’s still a lot to be done. you could, for example, put montages of digital pics with paper clips and slight light reflections (like glossy photo paper) into the “book”.. or let those little figures in the frontwindow play they’re big role. lots of ideas in my mind.

i have to add that this represents my very personal and honest opinion and i’ve to say that i have my own definition of taste depending on what you want to achive. you wanted me to write critics - not kind words and happy xmas ;)
